Fund-raising
We are very pleased to acknowledge the contribution of our sponsors and donors to the cost of implementing the Conservation Plan for the Rothe House property. Our main sponsor for the garden project was Failte Ireland, ably supported by Kilkenny Borough Council and Kilkenny Civic Trust. The assistance of the Heritage Council in the planning process, and in other ways, was considerable; and Kilkenny County Council, the Office of Public Works and the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government were most helpful in a number of ways.
The members of Kilkenny Archaeological Society have been generous with voluntary pledges, and many members of the general public who learned about the Plan have supported it with contributions.
In general public service grants are percentage grants and call for a local contribution of part of the cost. In addition, not all the investment needed is eligible for grants and must be funded otherwise. So, progress depends heavily on our success in raising funds from private and corporate sources and from running events, e.g. our Grand Ball in January and our up-coming Summer Barbecue in Rothe House on July 12th. We are hopeful for substantial corporate investment from firms with local connections as the final product of our Plan will create an exciting and attractive visitor experience, and open up Rothe House as a local resource for historic, cultural, educational and social activities for the people of the city and county.
Garden Sponsorship Scheme
To give opportunities to the public to support the garden project we have a scheme of Attributed Sponsorship of trees, plants, seats etc., and this is proving very successful. We still have many left unsponsored, so further contributions would be very welcome. It is a nice way to remember ourselves or our families and to do some good at the same time. Each contribution will be recorded at the point where the tree or seat etc. is located.
The details are: Hand-made wooden benches …………………………………………..€1,000 ea.
Oak trees, semi-mature, clipped, 2 metres tall ……………………€600 ea.
Bay trees, planted in pots in the lower garden ……………………..€200 ea.
Apple trees, old Irish varieties in the upper garden ……………….€40 ea.
Roses and shrubs, planted throughout the garden ………………….€25 ea.
Cobbles - limestone cobbles to be set in entranceway ……………€100 ea.
Please send your contribution to The Manager at Rothe House, Kilkenny, specifying the wording you would like on the commemorative plaque.
