Shakespeare in the House

Shakespeare in the House

On Saturday 14th June, Dreamstuff Youth Theatre performed abridged versions of two of Shakespeare’s plays in the courtyard of Rothe House. ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ was performed by the younger section of the group, while the teenagers performed‘Macbeth’. Admission was free, but donations to the Rothe House Fundraising campaign were made by the large audience who attended..

The weather was pleasant for the first play, but unfortunately the rain started just as Macbeth began - the curse of the Scottish play, perhaps? Still, the performers carried on regardless and all credit must be given to them.

The construction of Rothe House coincides with the writing of Shakespeare’s plays - A Midsummer Night’s Dream was first performed in 1595, one year after the first house was built, while Shakespeare retired from the world of plays in 1610, the year the third house was built. Plans are now afoot to  make this event an annual one, and perhaps even extend it to a two day festival.

Thanks are due to Mike Kelly and his dream team at Dreamstuff.
